Who We Are

Who We Are

Saint Anthony Hospital is a Catholic non–profit community teaching hospital dedicated to serving the health needs of Chicago’s Westside community.

For over 100 years, physicians and staff of Saint Anthony Hospital have provided medical care, social services, and community outreach to Chicago's West and Southside communities. Saint Anthony Hospital today, in collaboration with our partners, provides a full continuum of care—acute, primary, specialty, and rehabilitation—to meet the needs of the communities and patients we serve.

Saint Anthony Hospital, a member of Ascension Health, is a Catholic not-for-profit community teaching hospital dedicated to serving the health needs of Chicago's Westside community. Founded in 1897, Saint Anthony Hospital was operated by the Franciscan Sisters for almost 100 years. In 1995, sponsorship was transferred to the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and was expanded to include the Daughters of Charity in 1996 and Ascension Health in 2002. The neighborhood surrounding the hospital has always been a first point of entry for immigrants. Continuing in this tradition of serving the poor and under-served, the hospital now cares for many first and second-generation Mexican Americans.

The hospital operates a number of significant outreach ministries including prevention, education and referral. Programa CIELO, a free storefront education and social service organization, and Project Hope, a community based program for at-risk children, are visible examples of the extensive outreach.

The hospital provides a wide variety of services including Obstetrics (Perinatal high-risk services), Pediatrics (urgent care/after hours clinic), adult medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, and geriatrics.

Most notable is the continuum of services for perinatal patients and for children. A four-bed intermediate care program for very sick children has added a dimension of quality not always available in a community hospital. Saint Anthony Hospital provides many sub-specialty clinics and graduate medical training programs through collaboration with the Cook County Bureau of Health Services.
