Guy A. Medaglia was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2010 by Saint Anthony Hospital’s parent and hospital boards. Prior to Mr. Medaglia’s appointment at Saint Anthony Hospital, he was a Managing Director for FTI Healthcare (formerly Cambio Health Solutions). Mr. Medaglia has an accomplished background in healthcare, including executive management positions for an academic medical center, and multiple urban community hospitals both freestanding and as part of a Catholic health system. During his career in the healthcare industry, he designed and implemented numerous strategic initiatives around expense improvement, product line evaluation and modification, revenue enhancement, quality improvement, physician relations and physician contract management.
Mr. Medaglia has specialized in assisting senior management, boards of directors and creditors in the areas of operational restructuring and performance improvement assessment and implementation. Prior to FTI, Mr. Medaglia was senior operations executive for Roger Williams Medical Center; vice president and managing director for Li Moran International, Inc.; senior vice president for Montgomery Ward Corp.; vice president for Hook-SupeRX, Inc.; and divisional vice president for Sara Lee Corp.
Mr. Medaglia’s experience also includes design, implementation and project management of supply chain, productivity and strategic planning initiatives for multiple client companies. Mr. Medaglia has advised senior management and board members on acquisitions, new business initiatives and new market ventures. Outside the healthcare industry, Mr. Medaglia participated in the financial turnaround of two regional retail chains, managed the $50 million system integration of two merged corporations, and led the acquisition and integration of two retail companies along with the consolidation of two corporate headquarters.
Mr. Medaglia holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Meyer University and a Masters of Science in Management from Salve Regina University. He also is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives.
Mr. Brobst joined Saint Anthony Hospital in November 2005 after serving as Senior Vice-President of Finance for the Resurrection Health Care System. His current role is that of Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), responsible for all financial operations and treasury functions. He has played a principal role in Saint Anthony Hospital’s financial turnaround, its separation from Ascension Health and implementation of the hospital’s new Information System (IS) and IS operations.
From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Brobst served at West Suburban Medical Center, Oak Park, Illinois, also as Senior Vice-President of Finance and CFO. At West Suburban Medical Center, Mr. Brobst played an active role in West Suburban’s joining Resurrection Health Care. Prior to his position at West Suburban Medical Center, Mr. Brobst worked as Vice-President, Finance and CFO at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Blue Island, Illinois as well as Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois. Prior to that he was the Controller at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Illinois and the Manager of Research Accounting at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Brobst holds an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management where he graduated with Distinction and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Illinois where he graduated with Honors. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and has served on the boards of several organizations including the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
With over 20 years of nursing experience and leadership, Jill Stemmerman is our Vice-President of Patient Care as well as our Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Ms. Stemmerman oversees all administrative and clinical leadership aspects of the Division of Patient Care including, Inpatient Services, Emergency Services, Surgical Services, Respiratory Care, Pharmacy, and Quality Resources.
Ms. Stemmerman joined Saint Anthony Hospital in 2006 after 18 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago where she held progressively more responsible nursing administration roles including, Charge Nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager, Director of Ambulatory Care, and Director of Medicine Nursing.
Ms. Stemmerman is a Past President of the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL), Region 2A, and is a current member of the IONL Policy and Advocacy Committee. She is also a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
Ms. Stemmerman holds a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from DePaul University (Chicago) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa. She is also a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Aileen Brooks is our Vice-President and General Counsel. With 21 years of legal experience, Ms. Brooks oversees the legal department, general corporate matters, governance, compliance, insurance, litigation, risk management, employee health and security.
Ms. Brooks joined Saint Anthony Hospital in November, 1999. From 1996 to 1999, she practiced in the Chicago office of a multinational law firm serving clients in a variety of legal matters including insurance/reinsurance litigation and consumer credit class action litigation. Prior to moving to Chicago, Ms. Brooks worked as an attorney/solicitor in a boutique solicitor firm in London, England, concentrating her practice on defending professional liability claims. While attending law school, Ms. Brooks continued to work as the trauma nurse coordinator at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
Ms. Brooks holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit, a B.S. in Health Care Administration with a Certificate of Business Administration from the University of Detroit and an Associate of Science in Nursing. She is admitted to practice law in Illinois and Michigan (currently inactive) and as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales (currently inactive). She is also a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Denisse Leon is Vice-President, Physician Services at Saint Anthony Hospital. Ms. Leon joined Saint Anthony Hospital in July 1999 as the Director of Maternal Child Services and has held several progressively responsible roles since that time. She is currently responsible for the Physician Services Department, the Medical Staff Office, Medical Education, and Physician Recruitment and Retention. She graduated from Triton College, River Grove, Illinois, in 1986, with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She continued her education at Concordia University Chicago, with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Organizational Management in 1995. In 2003 she the completed her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a Major in Healthcare Administration from Dominican University, River Forest, Illinois.
James A. Sifuentes is our Vice-President of Mission & Community Development. Mr. Sifuentes oversees government and community relations, our community wellness programs, and ensures the hospital’s Catholic identity is present.
Mr. Sifuentes previously served as the Executive Director for the Pilsen YMCA in Chicago, and was instrumental in the planning and building of the Rauner YMCA, also in Chicago, as the first full facility center serving the Pilsen neighborhood and surrounding communities.
Mr. Sifuentes has extensive experience in community relations, fundraising, and organizational development. As a leader within the non-profit community, Mr. Sifuentes has a proven track record of accomplishing major reorganization leading to profitable business models. Mr. Sifuentes holds a B.A. in Psychology from St. Xavier University in Chicago.
With 15 years of experience in Development, Marketing & Public Relations, Ms. Vernick oversees the fundraising and marketing initiatives for Saint Anthony Hospital, including the upcoming launch of a capital campaign for our new community campus.
Ms. Vernick came to Saint Anthony Hospital from the Cleveland Clinic where she was Director of Development in the regional hospital system. In Cleveland, she lead efforts for the the Expanding Excellence fundraising campaign, the Clinic’s largest capital investment in one of its regional hospitals. Previous to this role, she served as Director of Development for the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital where she managed donor relationships to secure major gifts as part of an overall $50 million fund-raising campaign.
Ms. Vernick has extensive capital campaign, annual fund, special event, and major gifts experience. She has held the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation and is an active member of both the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Donor’s Forum and currently serves on the National Board for the Foundation for Community Betterment, based in Washington, DC. Ms. Vernick holds a B.A. in Communications & Sociology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Christine Raguso is our Vice President of Professional Services, joining Saint Anthony Hospital in June 2011. With over 17 years of experience in economic and community development, Ms. Raguso oversees the ancillary functions of the Hospital, the creation and implementation of a new clinic model, as well as the development of the new Saint Anthony Hospital community campus.
Ms. Raguso came to Saint Anthony Hospital from the City of Chicago where she held various roles including Deputy Chief of Staff to Mayor Richard M. Daley for Economic and Community Development as well as Acting Commissioner for the Department of Community Development. At the Department of Community Development she oversaw 187 staff and an annual budget of $355 million. From 2004 to 2007 she worked at DLA Piper Chicago as Development Coordinator providing comprehensive oversight and analysis of city regulations, coordination and preparation of various zoning and other land use applications for projects in various municipalities. Prior to DLA she worked as the Development Manager at Perkins & Will Chicago coordinating the business development efforts of the corporate, commercial, civic and higher education market sectors.
Ms. Raguso holds an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Business in Chicago and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She currently sits on the Greater Grand Crossing/Gary Comer Youth Center Advisory Board.
With experience in Human Resources since 1999, Ms. Morgan provides overall leadership and guidance to the Human Resources functions by overseeing talent acquisition, workforce development, compensation, benefits, employee and labor relations.
Ms. Morgan has been with Saint Anthony Hospital since 2002. In her previous roles she has improved policies, programs and practices to ensure continued organizational growth. Some of the initiatives she has led include restructuring the performance management program and implementing the organizations first on-line application.
Ms. Morgan holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation and has been an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Ms. Morgan holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut and a Masters in Human Resources Management and Organization Development from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
